From Paris to Austin

From Paris to Austin by LiLi Austin..

The Way (2011)

I'd normally pass on this type o' flic, assuming that it'd get everything wrong, but the trailer sold me and my sister Gaea was treating. And I've gotta say: I'm impressed. Pilgrims, backpackers, and travelers alike will all find something to enjoy and be inspired by here in this movie.. . and, if your ass is as landlocked as I am, your wanderlust will have you going crazy. The kind of crazy where you're thinking about what banks deserve to be robbed. The movie centers on four travelers who're walking the Way of Saint James --the pilgrims' path through northern Spain, stretching from the French border to the Atlantic, and spanning the length of the Pyrenees mountains. Needless to say, the vistas are breathtaking, and it's actually a damned good representation of the spiritual and human sides of traveling (both the ups AND downs). Backed by some solid acting and a soundtrack that doesn't make me want to commit mass murder, I'm definitely ou...

Burning Man 2011 de la Tiki

Image
...because everything burns... You can't just start off by talking about the steampunk octopus that breathes fire, or how you saw an airship dock above a wooden pier that was built in the middle of the desert. Peeps just don't understand it unless they were there. So... well... you've gotta give 'em something they can understand. And that's where I'll start. At Burning Man this year, there were portapotties, drugs, sex, and music. There you go. If you weren't there, your chances of understanding all the rest are rather goddamned slim. And, as the desert was completely sold out this year, your chances of actually being "there" don't run that high either. Hope you made it, because it was one frakking hellova ride! Care to join me? I'll be gentle. Pinkie swear! Let's start easy, with music... Dusty Beats : Beats Antique, burners for quite a few years, returned to the playa in 2011... and they just didn't hold anything back. It...

Featured Pilgrimage: The City in the Desert

Image
Tell me a story, Love. No, not that story! I don't want to hear about princes, kingdoms, peasants and hardships. Tell me about the land beyond the city walls. Tell me about the waters... dance with me in the deserts... sing to me about the wind... remind me of the world that was forgotten. What if I told you that there was a city in the desert that existed for only one week out of every year? What if I told you that 50,000 artists from around the world gathered in this city for a single week to make dreams into reality? What if I told you that this single week affects your life as you read this? Would you believe me? Because this is possibly the last great tribe of our species, and it's happening all around us! burning man by Christopher Michel For one week, Black Rock City is the third largest city in Nevada. In 59 days, our tribe will gather around the most beautiful temple on the entire planet... and we will burn it... and then the city will slowly disappear back into...

Zombie Updates and Tron Results

This bit o' RoadNews is gonna be a bit different, as I wanted to update everyone on how far Miss Tuesday Cain's " Zombie Haiku " has spread, as well as send thanks and updates to everyone who voted in the Daft Punk Remix Contest . Let's talk zombie... It's been months since Miss Tuesday Cain first got into trouble at school for turning in her "Zombie Haiku" as homework. What's changed? Gaea Qandromeda, who first turned me onto Tuesday's poem, has written her own tribute article explaining how all this happened. It's a fun and insightful diatribe that shouldn't be missed. Check it: Tribute Post: "Zombie Haiku" by Miss Tuesday Cain . Also, Ryan Mecum , the author of the book "Zombie Haiku", has supported Tuesday... going so far as comparing her to Stephen King. Thank you Ryan! You're a rock star... in that lurching "please don't bite me" kinda way. One of the better discussion threads about the ha...

A Strange Town
